It all began in the 1950s with the two friends Niels Stellan Høm and Carton Madelaire. Following unsuccessful attempts at setting up their own business with sports shoes or furniture, they tried again in the 1960s with a stainless steel sauce boat produced by Danish Stainless. This idea swiftly brought success. Not only Denmark was enthusiastic about the simple design – other countries also took notice of the Scandinavians.
The appointment of Managing Director Peter Holmblad turned out to be a stroke of luck for the company: His stepfather was none other than the Danish design legend Arne Jacobsen. During a meal with the family, the sketch of a teapot was created which became the cornerstone of the first series Cylinda. With both modern and timeless looks, the Cylinda products conquered everyday and festive tables all over the world from 1967.
Numerous other successful products and series followed which became icons of product design. For example the EM77 vacuum jug from the Classic line. The collaboration with Jacobsen manifested the particularly high design standards of Stelton products and the timeless, simple beauty that makes all products unique. Since then, only the best international designers have worked with Stelton to guarantee both aesthetic and functional tableware highlights.
