The following generations expanded the business of the Riedel family and developed new technologies, refining processes and colors for the glass products. In the sixth generation and during the Industrial Revolution, the family operated eight glassworks and was awarded the "Grand Prix" at the World Exhibition in Vienna.

After the Second World War and subsequent years of captivity as a prisoner of war for Walter Riedel, who had successfully managed the company until then, the family took the courageous step of starting anew in Kufstein, Austria, in the 1950s.

Claus Josef Riedel and his son Georg J. Riedel, who led the company in the second half of the 20th century, are responsible for the fact that Riedel is known today for its philosophy "Form follows function". Claus J. Riedel was the first to put the shape, size and glass thickness in relation to the development of the taste of a wine. The glasses at that time were entirely plain and without ornamentation, but put the wine center-stage. Georg J. Riedel continued to develop these approaches and established series which responded perfectly to the different characteristics of the grape varieties, thus bringing their merits to the fore. One milestone was the first mechanical production of grape variety-specific crystal glasses in 1986, which attracted a new and larger target group for the traditional company thanks to their moderate price. The Vinum series was the starting signal for the global success story of the brand, which is now represented in 125 countries around the world.

In the current eleventh generation, Maximilian Josef Riedel is working tirelessly on new, cutting-edge innovations. A special highlight under his leadership was the creation of the "O" glass series without a stem. Numerous international design awards underline the great success of these stackable wine glasses.

In 2008, Riedel even received a federal government patent for the decanter Eve, which is used to double decant the wine. The following decanter series – Mamba, Black Mamba and Green Mamba – convinced the design jury of the Good Design Award from the Chicago Athaeneum Museum of Architecture and Design, among others, and once again reaped the company a renowned award for its functional and aesthetic product portfolio.
