The French brand Lalique can look back upon a long tradition. René Lalique founded his company in Paris back in 1886. With his creations, the company founder played an important role in the Art Nouveau movement.

The origins of the glamorous history of the luxury brand lie in jewelry design. René Lalique worked for renowned jewelers such as Cartier and Boucheron before starting his own business with his personal creations. At an early stage, he made his jewelry using materials such as glass, enamel, horn and ivory, which were very innovative at the time. The unusual pieces quickly became popular and found favor among the high society. René Lalique reached the first climax of his success at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the artist increasingly devoted himself to the processing of glass. He designed bottles for the perfumer François Coty that gave shape to the fragrances they contained. In 1913, René Lalique acquired a glassworks in order to produce for a wider target group. This was replaced in 1921 by a new and larger production facility, which can still be found there today − in Wingen-sur-Moder in the Vosges. The focus of the portfolio developed into decorative objects for tableware and drinking glasses. Other prestigious commissions included the construction of a fountain on the Champs-Élysées in Paris and the furnishing of the luxury cruise ship "Normandie".

René Lalique's son, Marc Lalique, also worked in his father's company from the 1920s. Marc graduated from the École des Arts décoratifs Paris and took over the company after the founder's death in 1945. With an ongoing interest in technical innovations, he always ensured that the company had a finger on the pulse of the times and established a new era by changing the production of the manufactory from glass to crystal.

Marc Lalique's daughter, Marie-Claude Lalique, also continued the company in the tradition of her father and grandfather from 1977. Besides the vessels for fragrant essences, she developed her own perfumes. She also expanded the product portfolio of the Lalique world by the further area of leather goods and textiles.

The artistic legacy of the founder René Lalique continues today. Decorative objects, vases, perfumes and jewelry lend the luxury brand a timeless fascination even 130 years after its creation. Cooperations with renowned artists and the combination of tradition with modern influences have enabled the development into a modern lifestyle brand.
